Boluda will receive the first methanol tugboat in Europe in 2024

Boluda Towage has closed an agreement with Damen Shipyards for the supply of “zero emission” tugboats with which it wants to cover its operations in Europe. The first step will be the launch of the first new-build methanol tug on the continent, a Damen RSD-E Tug 2513.

The initiative is part of the goal of both companies to improve sustainability, and in the case of Damen, the construction of this new vessel brings it closer to its goal of becoming the most sustainable shipbuilder in the world.

In turn, Boluda Towage wants to join this latest commitment by integrating greener tugboats in the ports. In this sense, the importance of this collaboration has been highlighted due to the great technological development it represents for the maritime towage industry.

In fact, the shipping company recently completed a multiple order for IMO TIER III tugboats, pioneers in terms of sustainability. In addition to this agreement, both companies want to extend their collaboration with other interested parties in the maritime sector to accelerate the transition towards cleaner ships, especially in urban areas. At the moment, the RSD-E 2513 tugboat is in a state of construction and will be available for delivery from the year 2024.

On the other hand, the engineering company Sener has unveiled its conceptual design for a new sustainable tanker model for biofuel bunkering. It is a vessel created for multi-product supply, which can load heavy fuel oil, fuel oil with very low sulfur content, biofuels and marine fuels, as well as reserve CO2 capture from nearby ships.
