Basketball: How ASVEL and JL Bourg joined the half

This Tuesday, the first two teams validated their ticket for the Betclic Elite semi-finals. What are the keys to the success of ASVEL and JL Bourg?

Betclic Elite play-offs out of order. While some have not even entered the competition, others have already qualified for the next round. Due to its historic participation in the Final Four of the Euroleague, AS Monaco Basket has still not started its play-offs in the French championship. A series in two winning matches which began on Wednesday, against SIG Strasbourg. If Cholet and Boulogne-Levallois are tied (one round everywhere), we already know two protagonists in the last four. ASVEL, victorious at Le Mans, and JL Bourg, after their victory against JDA Dijon.

A first for Bourg, with Floyd as a hero

By beating Dijon, the Game ‘offers the very first semi-final of the French championship in its history. Not won in advance for the band of Frédéric Fauthoux, who arrived at the end of the regular season with several injuries. At the end of the day, in the last seconds of match 2 at Ekinox, the JL recovered from Jordan Floyd. The American back went to score the qualifying basket, on a mid-range shot going down to the ground, to blow up the Bressan public. If the victory was snatched on this shot, the work had been done before. Counting up to 18 points behind, the JDA could not close the gap entirely. Above all, JL Bourg had gone for a crucial victory in Burgundy in game 1.

ASVEL without shaking

Defending champion Lyon-Villeurbanne assumed their status as favorites in this quarter-final. A 2-0 victory in the series, without being really worried. In the first leg, ASVEL did not go into detail at Astroballe (103-73). With an excluded coach and a star, Matt Morgan (in the best 5 of the season) down, Le Mans was under no illusions. On the way back, to Antares, the debates were much tighter. Despite the absence of Nando de Colo and a found Morgan (23 points), the MSB is too short. Retin Obasohan (16 points, 3 rebounds) and his team won (63-66) and ASVEL continued on their way. 3e regular season, Tony Parker’s club is obviously the favorite for his own succession. It remains to beat Cholet or the Wembanyama Mets in half. Before potentially finding Monaco in the final…
