Badosaová – Muchová 6:4, 6:7, 6:2, Muchová lost the fight for the quarterfinals in a three-set drama

the 20-year-old Muchová was supposed to fight Badosa already on Monday, but the duel was postponed due to bad weather. The native of Olomouc completed another three-set match in Rome after the duel with home Martina Trevisanová.

The semi-finalist of last year’s Australian Open entered the match well and took the lead 4:2 thanks to a break in the sixth game. Subsequently, however, she lost four games in a row, and world number 35 Badosa won the first set in less than an hour.

However, the Czech tennis player continued her fighting performance. Although she missed three breaks in the second set and did not serve the set at 5:4, she already succeeded 7:4 in the shortened game. The players fought for the second set for 82 minutes.

Badosa handled the deciding set in the Foro Italico better. She took a 2-0 lead right at the start and later broke Muchová’s serve once more. The Czech did not manage a single break point and lost the duel after three hours and five minutes.

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic advanced to the quarterfinals, defeating Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6:3 and 6:4. The defending champion is aiming for a seventh triumph in Rome. His next opponent will be the Dane Holger Rune.

“We started early, we only had twenty minutes to warm up because it rained before. Every day there is a problem, but so far it’s going well,” said Djokovic, who will play in the quarter-finals for the 17th year in a row in Rome.
