“Aquila d’Oro”, third edition of the prize for the values ​​of sport

Arezzo, 16 May 2023 – Third edition of the “Aquila d’Oro”, the prize of the city of Arezzo to the values ​​of sport. The event, promoted by Ginnastica Petrarca in synergy with the Municipality of Arezzo and with Coni, is scheduled for 9.15 pm on Tuesday 11 July at the Medici Fortress when an evening will be offered in which to celebrate and tell the virtuous stories of athletes and personalities of civil society who, with their action, have shown to be positive examples of commitment and determination, resilience, ethics and fair play. Important guests, awards ceremonies, exhibitions and moments of entertainment will alternate during an appointment opening the summer events program of the Guido d’Arezzo Foundation, at the end of a process that will start already in the month of May with a voting phase in which the entire citizenry will be involved. «For the third consecutive year – comments Federico Scapecchi, councilor for sport of the Municipality of Arezzo, – we celebrate the positive values ​​embodied by men and women of the area. Arezzo boasts an important tradition, many team and individual disciplines have given prestige to the city and satisfaction to enthusiasts. Sentiment that can be expressed with the “popular” vote. But, beyond the results “in the field” and the final scorecard, there is the precious world of associations and those who animate it. Sport helps to spread an ethic of fairness, respect for others and self-confidence, forming aware citizens and showing social and cultural repercussions. It cannot therefore come as a surprise that the “Golden Eagle” enters, through the main door, the summer program of the Foundation which makes culture its mission».

After the presence of Sara Simeoni in 2022, the protagonist of the third edition will be the Technical Commissioner of the Italian national road cycling team Daniele Bennati who will share his sporting experience and who, at the end of the event, will receive the “Aquila d’Oro” award – The value in success”. Among the characteristic moments will be the opening message of the national president of Coni Giovanni Malagò who has shown that he believes in and appreciates this initiative, then a precious contribution to the evening will come from the sympathy of the actor, comedian and singer Sergio Sgrilli who has achieved national fame as stable presence in the cast of Zelig. Further moments of entertainment will be punctuated by the music of the Siena section of the Fanfare of the Bersaglieri, by the dance performance by Nicoletta Tinti, by a theatrical reading by Samuele Boncompagni of the Noidellescarpediverse cultural association and by a performance by the Gymnaestrada group of the Petrarca Gymnastics at the eve of departure for the World Gymnaestrada in Amsterdam.

The evening, hosted by journalist Luca Caneschi with interviews by Francesca Muzzi and Federico d’Ascoli, will feature the delivery of the “Aquila d’Oro” award to three sportsmen and three members of civil society for the categories “Commitment and determination”, ” Resilience” and “Ethics and fair play”. The names will be announced in the days leading up to the event and were identified by a jury from the municipal administration, Coni, journalism and civil society with Beppe Angiolini, as well as from the Petrarch Gymnastics inspirer of the initiative. Finally, another recognition will be the “Coni Award” assigned to a young sportsman who will be chosen directly by citizens through a “like” vote on Facebook scheduled from Sunday 21 to Sunday 28 May where each user will be able to own preference between Beatrice Coradeschi (taekwondo), Elisa Ferri (cycling), Nicholas Gavagni (athletics), Felice Izzo (billiards) and Mattia Menditto (archery). The online voting format represents one of the reasons for the greater participation of the “Golden Eagle” as witnessed by the 116,000 users involved on social media in the 2022 edition. “The “Golden Eagle” is the city’s prize of Arezzo to the values ​​of sport – adds Simone Rossi, president of Ginnastica Petrarca, – and registers the support of the institutions, the inclusion in the summer program, the direct involvement of citizens, the support of many sponsors and the convinced adhesion of personalities of national importance from the world of sport and art, confirming the consolidation and rooting of an event that aims to tell sport in its most educational and training dimension: the dimension of values».
