Mariano García, current European outdoor and indoor world champion, did not disappoint and won this Saturday with victory in the 800 meter final of the ‘Toni Bonet’ Ibiza meeting with a time of 1:47.75 minutes, the best Spanish brand of the year.
On the Can Misses-3 tartan, García lowered the best national record of the course by more than one and a half seconds (1.74), the 1:49.49 that he himself established on April 23 in the University Championships held in León.
The Murcian athlete did not give any of his rivals a chance, as demonstrated by the more than a second in which he led his closest pursuer, José Carlos Pinto, second with a time of 1:48.80 minutes.
Likewise, Óscar Husillos, European indoor champion of the 400 meters in 2021, won the 200-meter final with a time of 21.46 seconds.
A mark that did not allow the man from Palencia to improve the 21.15 he signed last Tuesday to win the meeting in Magaluf (Mallorca).
For her part, Maribel Pérez, sixth in the European Championships held last year in Munich, started the outdoor season with a second position after setting a time of 11.82 seconds on the slopes of Can Misses this Saturday.

In the women’s 1,500m the victory went to the Spanish Zoya Naumov who beat the Spanish Naima Ait Alibou with a time of 4:13.66 minutes, who finished second with a time of 4:16.80, while in the length final the victory went to Yuliana Angulo.
The Ecuadorian who signed a best attempt of 6.49 meters prevailed over the Spanish Fátima Diame, who despite also jumping 6.49 had to be content with second place, and Tessy Ebosele, third with a mark of 6.41 meters.
The meeting, which this year has reached the Challenger category within the World Athletics calendar, also featured tests for popular athletes and minor categories. The master of ceremonies was the former athlete and commentator Juan Carlos Higuero.
