1. FC Heidenheim has taken a big step towards promotion to the Bundesliga and could be partying on the couch in the evening. The victory against Sandhausen also sealed the fate of the opponent. Regensburg has only theoretical chances of rescue.
Dhe 1. FC Heidenheim has taken another step towards promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time, while SV Sandhausen has been relegated to the third division ahead of time. The Heidenheimers won the Baden-Württemberg duel deservedly 1-0 (0-0) and defended second place in the table. Should Hamburger SV lose against Greuther Fürth in the late game (8.30 p.m. / Sky), the Swabians’ rise would be perfect before the last matchday. Jan-Niklas Beste scored in front of 15,000 spectators in the 68th minute to win FCH.
As the bottom of the table, Sandhausen no longer has a chance of remaining in the league. Since Arminia Bielefeld scored in the parallel game against SC Paderborn (2:2), the team of interim coach Gerhard Kleppinger would hardly have gained anything even from a win in Heidenheim.
In a tough first half, Denis Thomalla (11th/36th) and Marnon Busch (38th) missed the hosts’ best chances. For the offensive overall extremely harmless SVS, Alexander Esswein only hit the post five minutes before the break. In the second round, Heidenheim increased the pressure. Beste scored his eleventh goal of the season with a low shot and made the decision.
Arminia Bielefeld – SC Paderborn 2: 2 (2: 1)
Arminia Bielefeld missed a victory in the fight for relegation. The former Bundesliga team came to a 2-2 (2-1) win against SC Paderborn in the home game on Saturday and is therefore still in relegation rank 16. The point win has made direct relegation highly unlikely, because Bielefeld had three points one matchday before the end lead and a goal difference that is 15 goals better than the competitor Jahn Regensburg.
Goals from Bryan Lasme (8th minute) and Sebastian Vasiliadis (36th) gave the home side the lead twice on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough for the sixth home win. Eintracht Braunschweig – Jahn Regensburg 1: 2 (1: 1)
The relegation of Jahn Regensburg is not yet finally sealed. The Upper Palatinate won the second game under new coach Joe Enochs 2-1 (1-1) at Eintracht Braunschweig. Nevertheless, due to the significant deficit to Bielefeld on the last matchday against Heidenheim, Jahn would need a football miracle to advance to the relegation place.
A week after the depressing 5-1 in Enoch’s debut against Hamburger SV, Jahn showed morale and fighting spirit in Braunschweig – and that after a bad false start. Immanuel Pherai scored for the hosts after less than 90 seconds.
Charalambos Makridis (21st minute) with a wonderful volley and Prince Osei Owusu (49th) after great work from Leon Guwara turned the game around in front of 20,267 spectators. The attacker Owusu, who came on for Kaan Caliskaner early on, had previously been unable to convert a penalty kick he himself was responsible for. Eintracht goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann (30th) saved his weak shot.
Jahn, who attacked again and again with determination, was the deserved winner in the end. Substitute Nicklas Shipnoski missed the 3-1 (79th) with a crossbar shot. At the back, goalkeeper Jonas Urbig prevented Braunschweig from equalizing several times. In injury time, Regensburg’s goalscorer Makridis saw the yellow-red card.
