The kings have conveyed their congratulations to Carolina Marín for the Princess of Asturias Sports Awardwhich was granted this Wednesday to the badminton player, who has been praised as “an example of improvement and transmission of the best sporting values.”
On behalf of their daughter Leonor, Princess of Asturias and honorary president of the foundation that grants the awards, Felipe and Letizia have moved to Marín through a telegram his “most sincere congratulations” on the award.
“This award recognizes your extraordinary achievements as a badminton player and your ability to become, with your triumphs, a a reference for this sport, inside and outside Spain, and an example of improvement and transmission of the best sporting values“, the kings have expressed.
Extraordinary record
The jury of the Princess of Asturias Sports Award 2024 yesterday highlighted the “extraordinary record” of the Olympic champion, three-time world champion and eight-time European champion, but also the values that it transmits “on and off the track”.
Marin, whose candidacy was proposed by the general director of Casa AsiaJavier Parrondo, takes over from Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge, two-time Olympic marathon champion.
