1. FC Köln: 3 future decisions: These are Baumgart’s summer problems Sports

The 1. FC Cologne between relegation and the league final sprint. The focus is already on preparing for the upcoming Bundesliga season. And there are three main problems for coach Steffen Baumgart (51)!

The Contract Clamp. What will become of Schindler?

After Purchase of Jeff Chabot (25) and the Future decisions by Jonas Hector (32/end of career) and Timo Horn (30/change), Kingsley Schindler (29) is the only remaining FC professional with an expiring contract. Because he’s supposed to go in the summer? The Cologne plan originally looked like this (BILD reported).

The problem: FC had a new signing on their list for right-back. But then came the transfer ban from Fifa, the ban on shopping. And so Schindler’s shares rose again. His future now depends on the decision of the Sports Court.

If the CAS confirms the immediate transfer ban, Cologne will probably extend with Schindler, after all Baumgart knows what he has in the fast sweeper. Things are different when Cologne is suddenly allowed to go shopping in the summer. Then it should lead to the separation from Schindler.

The quality question. Can Soldo Bundesliga?

The Croatian hasn’t been in Cologne for a year yet and still seems to have failed. In the strong 1-1 first half of the season in Munich, he was on the pitch for 90 minutes. Nicola Soldo (22) played his last FC game in February in a 3-0 defeat in Stuttgart. And since April (7 games) he’s not even in the squad anymore.

Now Baumgart has to decide whether he believes Soldo (contract runs until 2025) in the Bundesliga in the long term. It sounded different recently. The coach spoke of “three very good central defenders” in the squad. He probably didn’t mean soldo.

If he stays there, Cologne would have to find a buyer for the international. Difficult! Cologne would need a replacement for this and would have to wait and see what happens with the transfer ban…

The Crisis Dilemma. Where to go with Adamyan?

The Armenian’s first FC season can confidently be described as a flop season. Sport boss Keller had celebrated Sargis Adamyan (29) as a possible Modeste replacement last July. Eleven months later, the striker has still not really arrived, was only on the pitch for 627 Bundesliga minutes (4x starting XI), scored once.

While Selke is now delivering and the future belongs to players like Tigges, Maina and Thielmann, a loan for the new season seems to be the best solution for Adamyan (contract until 2026!).
