The Yankees celebrate their history more than any other MLB franchise, and for good reason. With 27 championships to its name and a host of legends with retired numbers, New York is one of the great historic American sports franchises.
On Tuesday, the celebration may have gone a bit too far when the Yankees tried to mark the 100th anniversary of the first game at the old Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees tweeted an interesting graphic that mixed the old Yankee Stadium with the new, even though the old one was torn down after 2008.
The “100 years at home” caption raised some eyebrows, considering the Yankees haven’t even spent two decades in their current stadium.

There are a few “to be fair” in order here. The old Yankee Stadium was right across from the new one, and Tuesday marked 100 years in the Bronx for the Yankees.
The franchise didn’t move very far in 1923, however. The Yankees’ home before the first Yankee Stadium was the Polo Grounds, which is just across the Harlem River and less than a mile from the current site. of Yankee Stadium. The 1923 move wasn’t too different from the 2009 move, at least in terms of distance.
The Yankees also spent two seasons away from the Bronx in the 1970s. The franchise called Shea Stadium their home in 1974 and 1975, while Yankee Stadium underwent extensive renovations.
So yes, celebrate the 100th anniversary of the old Yankee Stadium! The building has seen countless legendary moments and more championships than most teams can imagine.
It no longer exists either, and Yankee Stadium, which has been around for 15 seasons, won’t be 100 years old until 2109.
