Will Czech history be written? Pastrňák is attacking Jágr’s goal record

Czech hockey is likely to have the second best forward ever to play in the NHL. This year, David Pastrňák became the second Czech to score 100 points and became the third to surpass the 50-goal mark. He is currently attacking number 60 and is also close to the legendary Jaromír Jágr.

Records are meant to be rewritten. That’s the famous motto. And David Pastrňák really caught on to it this year. He became the second Czech to score a hundred-point year, only Jaromír Jágr managed it before him. He succeeded five times.

In terms of points, he is currently experiencing the fifth best season in Czech history, but he can become the absolute record holder in goals. He gave over 50 of them this year, which Jágr and also Milan Hejduk managed again. The legendary 68-year-old has held the best feat for 27 years, but now she has to worry about her record.

In 1995/96, Jágr scored 62 goals in a season, and this record has been valid for 27 years. David Pastrňák, a native of Havířovsk, currently has 57 and will start four more duels before the end of the season. Before the end of the regular season, the Bruins will meet with New Jersey, Philadelphia, Washington and Montreal.

“Pasta” is therefore five goals short of equalizing the record and six short of surpassing it. During the four matches, there is nothing that the best Czech striker of today cannot do.

If he managed to score 60 goals, he would become only the 22nd player in history to do so. In the 21st century, only Ovechkin, McDavid, Matthews and Stamkos could do it.
