Who is Fadil M., the rapist of the Central Station: a “ghost” without a cell phone and documents but with many aliases

No ID, but a fair amount of aliases. In his pocket, not even a cell phone. And there would be no utilities in his name. Irregular in Italy. He would not have a criminal record, but the multiple identities make it more difficult to ascertain. Nowhere to sleep regularly in Milan, even if he claimed to live near Piazzale Cuoco. What is certain is that just two months ago, on February 9, he was photographed across the border, in Slovenia. Fadil M., a 26-year-old Moroccan, accused of aggravated sexual assaultis one of manyghosts» that gravitate day and night around the central station. And he hasn’t moved away from that “magnet” for stragglers and desperate people even after the alarm raised by his victim.

Polfer’s agents, coordinated by the prosecutor Alessia Menegazzo and by the adjunct Letizia Mannella, after having collected the victim’s complaint and having viewed the videos of the video surveillance systems of the railway yard, a few hours later, they find him lying on the semicircular flowerbed in front of the station, which looks towards via Vittor Pisani. He still wears the same clothes (a red and black baseball cap with an inscription, ripped blue jeans, a flashy blue t-shirt with white drawings of flowers and palm trees) captured at dawn by the cameras that documented part of theassault and abuse to which he had forced a 36-year-old compatriot, passing through the city, waiting to catch a train to Paris.

In the night between Wednesday and Thursday, Fadil had “intercepted” his victim close to the gardens of Piazza Luigi di Savoia, on the side of the station. It is here that he meets the woman for the first time. It’s past 2. The two chat about their common origins. Then he gets aggressive. It is the beginning of the abuse. First in a corner, then inside one of the station’s lifts, which in the meantime (it’s 5 o’clock) has reopened. This last part is all documented by video cameras. Eventually she will stand in a corner, hurt and in a daze, until she is noticed by a worker and a security guard.

Only last week the investigators of the flying squad and the railway police had arrested a pizza maker 36-year-old Egyptian, regular, accused of sexual assault that occurred on April 5 against a 21-year-old girl on a regional train which ran along the section of the Passante railway between the Garibaldi and Forlanini stations. While the station area was back in the spotlight in early March, after the wake of violent robberies in which Abraham Rasia 23-year-old homeless Moroccan, had bloodied viale Brianza: four attempted robberies, knife in hand, you are wounded, moments of panic. Two recent episodes that reflect the two fronts of concern that have emerged since balance sheet on 2022 data of the police station: the petty crime on the street and «400 sex offenders» registered last year in the city.
