We already have a winner, “Toñita la Jarocha!”: Paty Lobeira de Yunes

* 74% of the participants in the Facebook survey voted for this name for the giant jarocha doll installed in the Zócalo of the City

* It will be exposed during the entire holiday period of Holy Week and Easter

Veracruz, Ver., April 08, 2023.- “Toñita la Jarocha” was the winning name in the survey that Mayor Paty Lobeira de Yunes conducted on Facebook for the giant jarocha doll installed in the Zócalo of the City.

After many comments and proposals, 74% of the participants voted for the name “Toñita la Jarocha”.

“Thank you to each and everyone who participated in this dynamic; the giant doll will be exposed in our Zócalo during the entire holiday period of Holy Week and Easter. Come meet her and take a selfie!” he expressed.

Totally full and a success all the activities

Mayor Paty Lobeira de Yunes reported that the beaches, the Zócalo of the City, the Macroplaza and commercial areas of the city and the port of Veracruz report an absolute full house.

He also said that all the activities carried out by the Veracruz City Council, as well as the rumbata organized by the Carnival Committee, for the enjoyment of tourists and locals have been a complete success.

Various sports activities are being carried out on the Martí beaches, such as the outdoor gym, beach soccer matches, as well as various activations of maxi voli, bumper ball, zumba, spiro, frisbee, basketball, and exhibition of disciplines such as boxing, karate , judo, tae kwon do and sambo; and in Playa Regatas there are paddle tennis tours “Rémale por Veracruz”.

In the Macroplaza on the Malecón the installed carousel has been a great attraction for young and old and in the Zócalo of the City people have fun with the Afternoons of Danzón with the Danzonera Alma de Veracruz, the Folkloric Galas with Grupo Alma Jarocha, Grupo Sotavento and with the Jarocho Tlazohtzin Ensemble.

In the rumbata held this Saturday on Manuel Ávila Camacho boulevard – from Playa Martí to the Veracruz Aquarium – the current Royal Court, batoneras, comparsas and batucadas participated, as well as candidates for children’s king and queen, to promote the Carnival of Veracruz 2023, and invite tourists to return in summer.
