If the proposal is approved, already from Baku we could see two qualifying sessions, with two separate races. However, during the April break many staff members are on vacation, and Pirelli would not be able to deliver the tires on time. So it’s more likely that we will see the change in Austria.
Regarding this topic, Toto Wolff said: “Two qualifying sessions are not bad, but with the current format they are not sustainable. Pirelli doesn’t have enough tires and the engines would be used too much. In qualifying you have less chance of putting the car into the wall, but with two races there is more risk. Also, when there’s a back-to-back, maybe you can’t fix the car in time.”
