Ukraine will boycott world judo championship over admitting athletes from Russia and Belarus

The Ukrainian national judo team has decided to boycott the main start of the competitive season, the World Championships, which will be held in Doha (Qatar) from May 7th to 13th.

This is what the head coach of the team Vitaly Dubrova said for the Ukrainian online newspaper Suspilne Sport, reports Ukrinform.

The decision of the national team of Ukraine relates to the admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus to the competition in a neutral status. On the final day of submitting applications for the World Championship, the International Judo Federation (IJF) announced the return of representatives from these countries to the competition.

Dubrowa also noted that the IJF did not even screen athletes who applied for the World Championships. The recommendations of the International Olympic Committee dated March 28, 2023 stated that athletes with contracts with the armed forces of Russia or Belarus would not be allowed to compete.
