Tour of the Alps 2023, Geoghegan Hart wins the stage 1st stage: the classification

Tao Geoghegan Hart conquer the 1st stage of the Tour of Alps 2023, 127.5 km from Rattenberg to Alpbach. The Ineos Grenadier cyclist, winner of the 2020 Giro d’Italia, is also the first green shirt of the race. Hart preceded the Austrian Felix Gall (Ag2r Citroen) and Hugh Carthy (EF). For the 28-year-old Briton it is the third stage success in the Euro-regional race, after the two won in the 2019 edition. The 2nd stageyes Reith im Alpbachtal a Rearingwith entrance to South Tyrol.

Race report

Geoghegan Hart took the initiative when there were 500 meters to go at the conclusion on the ramps of the challenging salita verso Alpbach, ahead of the Tyrolean Felix Gall (Ag2r Citroen) and the other British Hugh Carthy (EF Education First-EasyPost), the latter caught near the finish line. As in 2019, the British is the first leader of the General Classification of the Tour of the Alps with a 6” advantage over Gall and 10” over Carthy. The first of the Italians at the finish line is Lorenzo Fortunato, 10” behind the winner.
