Maja Chwalińska (238. WTA) only returned to the courts at the beginning of March after a six-month break. The 21-year-old suffered a knee injury in August 2022 and had to undergo surgery. Originally, she planned to return in December, but rehabilitation took a long time. She also missed the Australian Open because of this. Since her return, she has played only two matches, of which Lucie Havlickova (271st WTA) withdrew at the beginning of the third set in one. Now Chwalińska was supposed to rebuild her form, but this time she withdrew from the tournament during the match.

Already in the first round of the ITF W25 Santa Margherita di Pula tournament in Italy, two Polish players ran into each other. Maja Chwalińska faced Weronika Falkowska (248th WTA). However, the players were not on the court for too long, because in the first set Chwalińska scratched at 2:5 for her rival. The match lasted only 41 minutes. Falkowska recorded one service ace and scored 28 points. In turn, Chwalińska committed four double faults and scored 20 points.
For now, the reasons for Maja Chwalińska’s withdrawal from the tournament are unknown. It is known, however, that men and women players most often croak due to injury and inability to continue the match.

Thus, Weronika Falkowska advanced to the second round of the tournament, where she will face Fiona Ferro (434th WTA). In the first match, the French defeated the Swedish Caijsa Wilda Hennemann 6:3, 6:2. The ITF W25 Santa Margherita di Pula tournament is played in Sardinia near the city of Cagliari. The prize pool is $25,000.
