MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The International Judo Federation (IJF) allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in neutral status, according to the organization’s website.
“The IJF Executive Committee has decided to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in IJF events as individual neutral athletes,” the statement said.
It also indicates that the IJF hired an independent company which will screen prospective tournament participants based on the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“We strongly oppose any form of aggression, discrimination, war or loss of life. We believe that everyone has the right to participate in sport, regardless of ethnicity, religion or gender,” the report added.
The IJF stressed that athletes from Russia and Belarus will be able to opt for places for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and the World Championships to be held in Doha (Qatar) from May 7 to 14.
