An unusual draw at home against Hospitalet, without extension by regulation as it was a tie for the sum of points between two games, determined the relegation of Baloncesto Talavera to the EBA league (80-80). Therefore, the four-point defeat of the first leg made a difference. The feeling was one of frustration added by the visitors controlling the situation for 35 minutes. Ricardo Uriz’s team squandered their good work for five fatal minutes at the beginning of the last quarter, making useless a final rush that left them four points from extra time.
The match began with many errors, typical of the tension due to the high stakes, but the lethargy of the Talavera team lasted barely four minutes, which, with a 0-11 run, began to dominate the score with solvency and above the four points of disadvantage brought from the first leg (6-15). The key was a good defensive approach and a good reading of the attacking game, getting excellent shooting percentages and up to six players scoring in the first quarter (12-18).
Ricardo Uriz opted for the area in the second quarter, which met a scoring run from the local San Epifanio in the triple, managing to come back in just four minutes (24-23). Silverstrom and Ganal took the scoring reins and they regained control of the game and the score up to seven points (32-39) although, at halftime, the difference managed to equalize the tie (35-39) by a three-pointer from Real.
After the break, Hospitalet changed the dynamics with a defensive step forward. McRay-Thomas and Ganal saved the bad offensive moment of the group and kept hope at the end of the quarter, before the appearance of Lozoya as the clear leader in scoring for Hospitalet (54-53). The visitor’s disconnection in the defensive rebound and also in the attack during the first five minutes of the last quarter did not enter the script, receiving a 13-3 run that was ultimately definitive (67-56) and caused a timeout for the coach Ricardo Uriz. Silverstrom took the scoring reins and managed to put Baloncesto Talavera three points ahead with 23 seconds to go (75-78). In the final seconds, Lozoya was once again the leader and did not miss from the free kick to sentence Talavera to relegation. The final match meant Hospitalet’s permanence in LEB Plata.
