Storm Rapid starts with a slight delay

The Bundesliga match between Sturm and Rapid in the 23rd round will start with a slight delay.

The match scheduled for 5 p.m. can only be kicked off at 5:30 p.m.

The reason for the delay is a medical emergency in the stands, where a person in sector 8 needs to be resuscitated. A screen was set up by rescue personnel.

Just as the players were about to start warming up, this incident occurs.

As a result, there was a temporary silence in the already well-filled stands in anticipation of one of the most atmospheric matches in the league.

“stable” patient

Both the hard core of the Sturm fans, next to whose curve this emergency occurs, and the numerous Rapid fans who traveled with them, forgo any support for the time being.

At 4:47 p.m. Rapid goalies Niklas Hedl and Bernhard Unger step onto the pitch and are greeted with polite applause by the green-white fans and without any expression of displeasure by the Sturm supporters.

At the moment when the Sturm players come onto the field to warm up, stadium announcer Thomas Seidl delivers the relieving news that the resuscitated person is in “stable” condition.

This is met with loud applause from the ranks, but for the time being both fan groups will continue to do without the usual loud support.

The north curve of the SK Sturm only starts again at 5:08 p.m. The guest fans from Hütteldorf have remained silent until then out of respect and only then go back to “work”.
