Schalke U19: Before the DFB Cup final – S04 extended with two Knappenschmiede talents

On Sunday, the U19s of FC Schalke 04 will play in the final of the DFB Cup in Potsdam. Kick-off against 1. FC Köln is at 11 a.m. Previously, S04 extended two contracts.

Two FC Schalke 04 players should go into the DFB Cup U19 final with an extra dose of adrenaline. Because on Tuesday the royal blues announced the extension of the contract with two of their junior jewels.

Ngufor Anubodem and Emmanuel Gyamfi receive follow-on contracts and will also play for the Royal Blues in the 2023/24 season. “We are pleased that we were able to tie two more top performers from the current U19 team to the club,” explained Mathias Schober, Director of Knappenschmiede & Development. “We are convinced that the boys are now also taking the next development steps in the senior division.”

Anubodem moved from Rot-Weiss Essen to Knappen in 2018. The full-back was used in all 15 A youth Bundesliga games and the four previous DFB Cup games last season and, like Gyamfi, is likely to be a seed in the final.

The 18-year-old Anubodem was a Germany U16 and 17 national player, but was then no longer considered. He had previously been linked with Dutch Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar. Interesting: His younger brother Takang Anubodem is moving from the S04 U17s to the VfL Bochum U19s for the new season.

Gyamfi has also extended. The left foot came to S04 from Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2019. He also played all 19 competitive games this season for the U19s.

Both should initially be planned for the Under-23s of the Royal Blues in the West Regional League, coached by Jakob Fimpel. There they can first gain a foothold and prove themselves in senior football. The fact that the path from the U23 of the Knappenschmiede to the professionals is sometimes short should provide further motivation.
