Yoshinobu Yamamoto had a stellar start Tuesday night in the Dodgers’ eight-to-two victory against the Miami Marlins at Chavez Ravine. The right-hander had his longest outing in Major League Baseball and accomplished a feat that no other pitcher in the history of the Los Angeles franchise has accomplished.
The Japanese had 19 straight strikes to start the game to set a new record for a Dodgers pitcher. No pitcher has managed to do this since complete pitch-tracking data became available in 2000. This is Yamamoto’s third straight game with a win, and he has been improving with each start.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the second pitcher on the team to pitch beyond the seventh inning and has lowered his ERA to 2.79. The Japanese has left behind his disastrous debut in the Major Leagues in the games played in South Korea against the San Diego Padres and is establishing himself as one of the best pitchers in the Dodgers and in the entire league.
