Judo is a Japanese martial art developed by a Japanese professor, Jigoro Kano developed around 1880. He learned Jiu Jitsu at various schools before founding his own school in 1882, which is now known worldwide Kodokan founded. He called his art Judo and he had also established his basic principle: winning by yielding, or maximum effect with a minimum of effort. Nowadays judo is practiced in over 150 countries making it the most widespread martial art in the world.
The word judo is made up of two Japanese words: “JU” (gentle) and “DO” (way), which together describe its principle and essence.
