The Tampa Bay Rays tied the major league baseball record, which dates back to 1900, by winning their first 13 games of the season. They join the 1982 Atlanta Braves and the 1987 Milwaukee Brewers with 13 wins to start a season.
They defeated the Boston Red Sox 9-3 on Thursday afternoon with a seven-run production in the fifth inning.
Only the St. Louis Maroons of the Union Association in 1884 did better with a 20-0 record to start their season.
