PSG: Nasser Al-Khelaïfi changes his plans and returns to Paris to manage the crisis

Last weekend, the president of PSG was in Qatar for the start of Ramadan. It’s his habit. In general, he takes advantage of this moment to settle down with his family and multiply meetings with the dignitaries of the emirate. But this time, given the situation in which PSG finds itself, its calendar is upset. After spending three days in Doha, he reached Lisbon on Tuesday, then Paris on Wednesday.

Sunday evening, he watched PSG-Lyon (0-1) and faced with the appalling spectacle offered by his club, he let off steam on his cell phone, sending inflammatory messages to all his close guard. On Monday, he multiplied the exchanges with Luis Campos to take stock of the situation and consider what levers he could activate to put the team back on the right track. For lack of solutions, Christophe Galtier was maintained, but it is out of the question to watch Paris sink without doing anything and to let Marseille and Lens get a little closer.

Tuesday morning, the president of PSG, who is also that of the European club association (ECA), flew to Lisbon. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., he took part in UEFA’s Comex, bringing France its only way to organize the Women’s Euro in 2025, which was finally awarded to Switzerland. In the evening, as is a ritual wherever he is, he went to play padel. He hit the ball in a small Lisbon club with two strangers who believed in a hidden camera.

Wednesday morning, at the 47th UEFA Congress, he attended the re-election of Aleksander Ceferin as president of the European body. During his stay in Lisbon, Nasser also worked hard to ensure that Philippe Diallo, interim president of the French Federation (FFF), collected the necessary votes to join the comex of the European body. The two are getting to know each other and have been spending a lot of time together over the past two days.

No speaking planned

Initially, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi was to join Qatar at the end of the Congress. But given the situation at PSG, he changed his program and headed for Paris, where he landed late Wednesday afternoon. Often criticized, rightly, for his too many absences and his multiple hats which prevent him from being fully involved for the club, NAK this time felt the importance of being able to measure, directly, the depth of the malaise which invaded his club.

He should attend training by Friday, just to show the players that he supports them and that he is fully concerned by the bad patch they are going through. He has not planned to speak in front of the group, but, as usual, will slip a more or less emphatic word to each of his frames.

His presence in Nice, Saturday evening, for the match of the 30th day, is not confirmed. But the appointment is so crucial that he could, once again, change the program at the last moment. Even if it means postponing his return to Doha for a day.
