The man from Santiago, ranked 236 in the ATP world ranking, surpassed the Italian Arnaboldi (445), after 1 hour and 27 minutes of contention.
In the second round of the Roman tournament, Trungelliti will face the winner of the match between the Italians Giovanni Fonio (304) and Mattia Bellucci (165), who will play tomorrow.
The Challenger in Rome takes place on clay courts and will distribute a total of 73,000 euros in prizes.
Argentine tennis players have won five Challenger tournaments this year, the category next in importance to the ATP tournaments.
