1000th international match with symbolic power – DFB-Elf takes on Ukraine – Sport

The 1000th international match of the national soccer team should become a symbol for peace. As the German Football Association confirmed on Monday, the team of national coach Hansi Flick will play the next friendly on June 12 against Ukraine. “The 1000th international match is a very special event. We want to use it to send a clear signal for peace and international understanding and against war and destruction,” said DFB President Bernd Neuendorf. The venue for this match is Bremen’s Weser Stadium, where no international match has taken place since 2012.

One is “grateful that this game will have the status of a benefit game and that the DFB plans to use the funds raised to support the Ukrainians,” said the head of the Ukrainian association Andriy Pavelko. The two further tests of the DFB-Elf before the summer break were also determined: On June 16th there is a duel with Robert Lewandowski’s Poland in Warsaw, on June 20th it’s Schalke against Colombia.
