Luka Doncic denies report on possible trade demand in the coming year

After a disappointing season, the Dallas Mavericks may be concerned that Luka Doncic could call for a trade in the future unless significant progress is seen in the near future. However, the Slovenian denied a corresponding report.

This is reported by Tim MacMahon ESPN. Accordingly, Doncic could already weigh up his options in the summer of 2024 if Dallas has another disappointing season. The Slovenian still has a contract with Dallas until 2027, but can get out of his $ 215 million deal a year earlier.

On the Mavs’ final PK, a cheerful Doncic denied this report: “I saw that. I don’t know who said that. That’s funny because I didn’t even know that I wanted it. I was like that never said anything,” said the 24-year-old. “I am happy here and there is no need to worry.”

Owner Mark Cuban also recently announced that the superstar still feels comfortable in Dallas, but also restricted: “But we have to earn it.” The Mavs did little about it this season. After a trip to the Western Conference Finals, they even missed out on the 2022/23 Play-In Tournament.

Key to this was last summer’s departure of Jalen Brunson, who preferred to join the New York Knicks. Without the guard, the 24-year-old shouldered even more responsibility, and MacMahon said he pushed the Mavs internally to take action by the trade deadline. This resulted in the trade for Kyrie Irving, but it didn’t work out as hoped.

Since the trade, the Mavs have won just 9 of 27 games, and along with Doncic and Kyrie, the Texans are 5-11 and have one of the five worst defenses in the NBA. In addition to Irving, Dwight Powell and Christian Wood, among others, are now free agents.
