JUDO – Rosa, Soriano and Lorenzo win silver in qualifying for El Salvador

Estefanía Soriano, Ana Rosa and Ariel Lorenzo obtained silver medals in their respective categories in the judo qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games that will take place this year in El Salvador.

The championship, which takes place in the Volleyball Pavilion of the Olympic Center, will continue this Saturday and Sunday with the Pan American Open that will award points for the Chile 2023 Pan American Games, and the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The contest has the support of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI).

Soriano, in the -48 kilos category, took silver after losing in the final against Zamarit Gregorio, from Cuba. The bronze was shared by the Cuban Aleannis Carbonell and the Venezuelan María Giménez.

At -57 kilos, Ana Rosa was surpassed in the final by Arnaes Odelin, from Cuba. Sabiana Anestor, from Haiti, and Kristine Jiménez, from Panama, obtained bronze.

Ariel Lorenzo, in -100 kilos, took second place after losing to Liester Cardona, from Cuba. Thomas Davis of Jamaica and Alexis Esquivel of Mexico shared the bronze.

Jose Nova from Dominican Republic, in over 100 kilograms, won bronze. The gold of the category went to Andy Granda, from Cuba, who surpassed Steven Moore, from Jamaica.

In other results, Ashley McKenzie, from Jamaica, won gold against Moisés Rosado, from Mexico, in -60 kilos. Iván Salas, from Venezuela, and Bernabé Vergara, from Panama, obtained the bronze.

The Dominican Republic already has 10 judo athletes classified for the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador and will seek to complete the remaining ones in the categories of 57 kilos, 78, 70 and 63, which will be determined at the end of the tournament.
