There are not even two weeks left until the start of the World Cup, so the final nomination is slowly crystallizing. A few cuts will take place even now after the double match with Austria. However, head coach Kari Jalonen suggests that for now it will be more about minor changes.

“The plan is that we will keep most of the players until next week,” he says after Saturday’s 2:1 triumph over Austria. “We will still have a lot of players who will fight for a place in the championship,” he reports in the direction of the Czech Hockey Games.

He will watch the series in the NHL with tension, for example, the one between Boston and Florida unexpectedly reached the seventh game. Bruins with David Pastrňák, David Krejčí, Jakub Lauk, Tomáš Nosk, Jakub Zbořil and Pavel Zacha are one defeat away from unexpected elimination!

Boston’s shocking finish in the first round of the playoffs would likely shake up the World Cup roster a lot. “Changes in the staff? We don’t know yet. We have to wait, maybe something will happen on Sunday. We only know that Dominik Kubalík will arrive on Monday. That’s for sure,” advises Jalonen. “Everything will probably be resolved during Sunday. Now we have to deal with it calmly.”

In addition, before the Euro Hockey Tour home tournament, Kari Jalonen can use possible reinforcements from Třinec and Hradec Králové. “We haven’t decided yet. But we will definitely check a few names from the finalists,” Jalonen says.

However, when he was asked a direct question about goalkeeper Ondřej Kacetl, he briefly said: “I don’t want to say any names.” Further questions about Daniel Voženílek and company were suddenly unnecessary.
