Heitinga responds to Brobbey’s remarkable statistics: ‘That means nothing’

| by Timo Sur

Ajax coach John Heitinga has responded to a remarkable statistic after Ajax – FC Emmen (3-1). Brian Brobbey only touched the ball twice after his half-hour substitute. In addition, the coach also discusses Jorrel Hato’s basic debut.

‘That means nothing’, says Heitinga on the ESPN press conference after the match. The striker came on for Steven Bergwijn after an hour of play, but he hardly appeared in the game. ‘I am working with Brian every day and I think he will be of great value’, Heitinga responds. Brobbey – despite his place on the reserve bench – is still fifth on the top scorers list with eleven goals.

The coach will also discuss Jorrel Hato’s basic debut in the Eredivisie at the press conference. At seventeen years and forty days, the defender became Ajax’s fourth-youngest debutant ever and Heitinga is satisfied with the youngster. “The left-back position is not yet a settled position. Jorrel came in very well against Fortuna Sittard last week and I wanted to build on that. I look at it per match and it is great that he has made his basic debut. He has done some very good things, at least there is competition in the left-back position.’

Good months for Hato

These are good months for Hato. The defender made his debut for Ajax 1 in the cup match won against FC Den Bosch (0-2) and things went fast after that. He is of fixed value in the match selection and is increasingly allowed to make minutes from Heitinga. He made his basic debut in the quarterfinals of the TOTO KNVB Cup against De Graafschap (0-3) and he could also count on playing minutes in the semifinals against Feyenoord (2-1). After he was allowed to play a half against Fortuna Sittard (4-0), he started against FC Emmen for the first time in the base in the Eredivisie on behalf of Ajax.
