Heitinga does not rule out Rensch and Kudus playing against PSV

| by Bart Veenstra

John Heitinga does not exclude the possibility that he will again have Devyne Rensch and Mohammed Kudus at his disposal in the important top match against PSV. The two players are currently struggling with injuries, but it cannot be ruled out that both will be fit in time for the squatter in Eindhoven.

“Whether they will get PSV, I can’t say yet,” says Heitinga after the win against FC Emmen, quoted by Football International. “The hope is there, but whether they make it depends on the coming days. Devyne has trained one training part. That is a day to day view. Mohammed has not yet trained,’ says Heitinga.

Heitinga also discussed his own future during the press moment. In the past week, the coach of Ajax met the new director of football affairs Sven Mislintat. ‘We had an introductory meeting, which was a great conversation, but May 19 is only his first official day on the job. I will focus on the first team. That’s where all my energy goes. I’ll let you know when the final decision has been made.’

“I stepped in to help, so I’m focusing on the next game: PSV out,” says Heitinga, who is then asked whether he would like to continue as an assistant next season. “I signed my contract as an assistant in the first instance. But those are all things that are not an issue now, I’ll just wait and see.’

Mediocre match Ajax and loss Álvarez

Heitinga saw his team play a ‘very mediocre’ match against FC Emmen on Sunday evening. Nevertheless, he is confident in a good result against PSV next week. He explains why. ‘We are winning this game. We have played matches in which we have had very good phases. We have shown that we can also compete and fight. We are second and we have to make sure we stay second.’

During the duel in Eindhoven, Ajax must miss Edson Álvarez. The Mexican is suspended for the squatter in the Philips Stadium. ‘We’re going to feel it,’ says Heitinga. ‘He provides balance. He can play as either number 6 or center back. Edson is a very steady player. You miss that in this duel. We just have to deal with that now.’
