Leroy Sané’s performance at FC Bayern Munich and in the German national team is very variable. The 27-year-old professional has to take criticism again and again. Now Sané speaks for himself.

Et was a hard-fought game that Bayern narrowly won 1-0. The chances of winning the game at SC Freiburg last Saturday were there. Also for Leroy Sané, the German international. But the 27-year-old missed the options. Once again – and once again there was criticism afterwards. Criticism that Sané cannot always understand.

“I know myself that I have to reward myself more in some actions, I have to score more goals, but I always have the feeling that I’m often judged in public,” he said in an interview with Sport1 published on Tuesday. “I’m celebrated after a goal – after two or three weaker halves, people discuss whether I’m still good enough for FC Bayern or the national team.” Sané would like a “more balanced measure”.

The offensive player regrets the separation of FC Bayern Munich from coach Julian Nagelsmann. “I have a very good relationship with Julian – I was sorry that he had to go in the end because we as a team sometimes couldn’t deliver the results we had hoped for. I always felt picked up by him.”

“I’m sure we will be very successful”

Successor Thomas Tuchel reminds him in many areas of Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola, who Bayern meet this Tuesday (9 p.m. / Amazon Prime Video) in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League. “It’s fun and I’m sure we’ll be very successful with him,” said Sané, who played for Man City from 2016 to 2020, about Tuchel.

Sané was able to understand why national coach Hansi Flick was not nominated for the most recent international matches against Peru and Belgium. “I would have liked to have been there, but I fully understand that Hansi wants to test a few new players in training and in the games after the disappointing World Cup. That’s how he explained it to me.”
