Detroit won a doubleheader against the Guardians – Cartel Deportivo

DETROIT — Riley Greene homered in the sixth inning and Eduardo Rodriguez pitched eight scoreless innings as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Guardians 1-0 on Tuesday night, completing a doubleheader sweep.

The left-hander pitched eight innings for the first time since 2017, when he played for the Boston Red Sox.

Jason Foley pitched in the ninth for his first save, and Detroit earned its fifth win in a row. The Tigers have won their previous three games with hits that left their opponents on the ground.

Peyton Battenfield (0-1) allowed three hits, including Greene’s home run to opposite field, in a drive that included three walks in six innings.

In the opener, Kerry Carpenter hit a solo shot with two outs in the ninth inning as the Tigers prevailed 4-3.

The Tigers started the season with a 2-9 record.

Alex Lange (1-0) got the win after allowing one hit and striking out one in the ninth.

James Karinchak (0-3) suffered the loss when Carpenter missed a full count pitch to right field.

The Tigers went ahead 1-0 on Javier Báez’s sacrifice fly in the first inning.

In the first game, for the Guardians, the Venezuelans Andrés Giménez 4-1; and Gabriel Arias from 3-1. Dominicans José Ramírez 4-1, one scored; and Óscar González 4-1, one scored and two towed.

For the Tigers, Puerto Rican Báez 4-1, two RBIs. Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera 4-0.

In the second match, for the Guardians, the Dominicans José Ramírez 4-0, Óscar González 3-1. Venezuelans Andrés Giménez 2-0, Gabriel Arias 3-1. For the Tigers, Puerto Rican Javier Báez 4-1.
