Dārziņš, Niživij and other former national hockey players will play a match against the Saeima team

As the world hockey championship approaches, on Saturday, April 29, the Saeima hockey team will compete against the Latvian Hockey Federation and former Latvian national team players in a friendly match.

MPs Kaspars Briškens, Atis Deksnis, Jānis Grasbergs, Arnolds Jātnieks and Lauris Lizbovskis, as well as former Saeima deputies Gaidis Bērziņš and Imants Parādnieks, have been announced as members of the Saeima team. The fighting spirit of the team will also be strengthened by the Chairman of the Sports Subcommittee of the Saeima Education, Culture and Science Commission Dāvis Mārtiņš Daugavietis, as well as MPs Andris Kulbergs and Atis Švinka. Saeima employees and family members of MPs will also be among the players.

On the other hand, Lauris Dārziņš, Aleksandrs ņiživijs, Agris Saviels, Krišjānis Rēdlihs, Jānis Straupe, Rūdolfs Kalvītis, Āriks Miļuns, Roberts Plųējs, Ralfs Bukarts, Tom Broks, Edgars Gaross and other representatives of the federation have been announced as part of the Latvian Hockey Federation and national team former players’ team.

The hockey game will be opened and encouraging words will be given by the Speaker of the Saeima, Edvards Smiltēns, and the President of the Latvian Hockey Federation, Aigars Kalvītis.

The friendly match will have three periods of 15 minutes each. After the game, regardless of the score, the teams will take five post-game shots each. Players will also demonstrate their skills and mastery in agility and speed relays.

After the match, the teams will be awarded, as well as the best forward, defender and goalkeeper of the game, as well as the most valuable, most productive and most attractive player.

The Saeima hockey team was established in the tenth Saeima and since 2011 has played many friendly matches, competing against the teams of the State Police, Valmiera City Municipality Council, musicians and Farmers’ Saeima teams.

The friendly match between the Saeima and the former players of the Latvian national hockey team will take place on Saturday at “Arena Rīga”, Skanstes Street 21, at 12:30 p.m.
