COMMENTARY: Sparta lost on Sunday. Krétínský is embarrassing and the players make cheap gestures… What will happen next?

Today, Sparta plays one of the most important matches of the season, the semi-finals of the MOL Cup. And although everything may seem idyllic and wonderful, I am not of that opinion at all. I would like to go back to Sunday. Super performance by Sparta, decent atmosphere. So what can be added to Sunday’s match against Brno, thanks to which the Spartans moved one step closer to their dream title? Unfortunately, there are quite a few.

If we take it chronologically, the first situation happened already at halftime. The owner of Sparta, Daniel Křetínský, a billionaire and an influential person in the Czech Republic, who, however, shows basically no interest in his club and is called Sparta’s gravedigger by fans, probably did not understand the consequences of his actions.

First of all, I am surprised that he was at the game at all. The person who at the end of the year evaluates a messed up season and blames the fans for not actually helping? Well, he is actually originally from Brno, so maybe he came to visit his two favourite teams.

West Ham, whose majority stake he recently bought, was at the time playing an important rescue battle in the Premier League with Southampton. However, in the twenty-first century, tracking everything and everywhere is not a problem.

Krétínský’s faux pass

As can be seen from the minutes of the match, Křetínský broke into the referees’ booths at halftime.

“During the half-time break, Mr. Daniel Křetínský entered the judges’ booth accompanied by the main organizer. He politely asked for an explanation of two game situations and then left the referee’s booth,” the minutes of the match read.

Yes, this happened in a match of the highest Czech competition in a club whose glory touches the stars. We can safely use the alleged words of Princess Libuša in connection with Sparta, because no one can steal the Leten club’s thirty-six championship titles.

Nevertheless, the model situation is more reminiscent of a district championship duel.

Embarrassingly. Pathetic. The whole of Sparta, which was attended by a full house on Sunday, has a coat of shame. The allusions of the fans from Slavia are absolutely right, although it is said that everyone should sweep in front of their doorstep…

In any case, it shows how untrustworthy and pathetic Czech football is. Sparta, Slavia, Pilsen… Probably nobody has and never will have a clean table.

Instead of dealing with the performances of Sparta and the referees after Sunday, because it is true that in my opinion the honorable Radek Příhoda has very bad “material” for judges, the shame of the whole Sparta caused by Křetínský is being dealt with.

Disgust.

A cheap gesture from a great leader

But that was not all. The behavior of Sparta’s players after the match probably did not go unnoticed by anyone. When it looks like the whole of Sparta will unite again after a long time, he arrived at Letná after a long time to support the cauldron, from my point of view it is a completely unnecessary and cheap gesture.

The players did not come for the boiler, captain Ladislav Krejčí initiated it. According to his words, he only wanted to express his opinion and show respect to the opposite stand for their unceasing support. I’ll say it again: a completely unnecessary thing that will only confuse the fans again.

Krejčímu et al. but I probably didn’t mind going to the thanksgiving party with the same fans who traveled over three hundred kilometers to Sparta during the mentioned six months.

Although Sparta has made an excellent start to the title, it is clear to me from the two described situations that they lost on Sunday.

It’s not always about three points…
