Club: PSG exploded its commissions to agents last season

The figures published by the DNCG over the past week have shown that the PSG has never paid as much to the various agents and intermediaries as last season. Nearly €40 million have been paid.

PSG is generous with its players as the salaries of recently revealed stars prove, but it is just as generous with their agents and other transfer intermediaries. The DNCG has published the detailed accounts of L1 clubs for the 2021/2022 season, confirming in passing the abysmal losses of the capital club with a net result of -368M€, and PSG paid no less than 39.440M€ in agent and intermediary fees. By way of comparison and despite a crazy number of transfers, OM only paid €10m in commissions during the same season, the same for AS Monaco and barely more for Rennes (€9.2m).

Obviously, the PSG finds itself paying large sums because it makes large transfers, it is logical. Over the 2021/2022 season, which stretched from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022, he had made the following movements in the direction of arrivals: transfer of Achraf Hakimi (€60m excluding bonus), loan then transfer of Nuno Mendes against 45M€ (7+38M€), transfer from Vitinha (41M€), free arrivals of Georginio Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Leo Messi. Kylian Mbappé’s extension also earned PSG a €35m bonus in Monaco. That is €181m in total transfer compensation including this bonus.

About €40m for €181m in transfers, the ratio is delusional (around 22%) and this means above all that the arrivals at the end of the contract have therefore cost the capital club a fortune, the agents and various intermediaries being very well paid. even without a transfer fee paid to another club. In Paris, the soup was therefore good for everyone during the crazy summer of 2021…

A very sharp increase in the amount paid to agents

This figure for compensation paid to agents and intermediaries has been provided by the DNCG since the 2017/2018 season, which is good since it was the one during which PSG broke the bank by signing Neymar (€222m) and Mbappé, the latter being loaned then transferred at the end of the season against 145M€. That season, PSG had only paid € 23.2 million in commissions according to the figures provided. That is around 5% of the total spent on transfers over the season, estimated at €400m since Berchiche (€15m) had also been recruited a few weeks earlier.

Neymar, Mbappé and Berchiche, the three paying recruits of the summer of 2017

Year after year, the commissions have only climbed while Paris has nevertheless been rather wise on the whole on the transfer market, blocked by the sums committed to hire Neymar and Mbappé. PSG thus paid €25.8m in commissions in 2018/2019, €26.9m in 2019/2020, €28.45m in 2020/2021 (therefore in the midst of Covid…) and therefore €39.4m per season past. For the first time, the club has therefore exceeded the bar of 30M€ in commissions paid, approaching that of 40M€ in passing, which represents an increase of almost a third. What also explains why PSG changed sporting director at the end of last season, Leonardo being replaced by Campos?
