ATP Munich – Holger Rune causes a stir with a medical timeout: “An actor on the pitch” – Dane defends himself

“I’ve played more than 10 games in the last 2 weeks. My body is ready at the moment, but I still wanted to fight to the end. It’s a final. I’m not giving up,” Rune replied to a comment from a tennis fan on Twitter, who accused the Dane of only faking an injury during the match.

“Rune is such an actor on the pitch, playing with an alleged injury in the Munich final. He was played off like the baby he is, faking an injury to distract the opponent. He’s such a kid who had no problem running to the net at full speed,” the fan wrote on Twitter, with others echoing the criticism.

The youngster didn’t want to let these allegations sit down and took on the critics individually – “Which planet are you from?” He asked one of the users:

Rune took a medical timeout early in the third set to receive treatment on his shoulder. After exhausting weeks, the first signs of wear and tear could be seen in the Dane, who fended off four match balls from the opponent in the match against the Dutchman and repeated the victory from the previous year on the red ashes in Munich.

The title in the Bavarian capital made Rune very proud. “It means a lot to me. It’s been a tough two weeks with a lot of fighting. I don’t have much body left today, but #keepfightingtilltheend,” commented the Dane on a post where he can be seen with the trophy.

“I’m drained, exhausted, but I fought my way through,” Rune summed up after his triumph, adding: “It was a big fight.”

Next up for the Dane is the Masters in Madrid. Seeded number six, the 19-year-old is going into the tournament in the Spanish capital with a lot of momentum.
