ATP – Madrid > Medvedev: “Here, it’s not clay where your legs and your balls sink into the ground”

During his media day in Madrid, the Russian spoke about the playing conditions which are very special in Madrid.

The altitude plays a role on the speed of the balls (Editor’s note: Madrid is at 646m) but also the very structure of the grounds which are not traditional clay like in Rome for example or on other tournaments.

As a result, this event is very different from the others when it comes to the ocher tour.

Daniil sees it as an advantage for his game even if for the moment he has never really shined in the Spanish capital.

« It’s really different. I would say it’s a bit like the clay court at Roland Garros, where there’s a harder surface, it’s not the clay court where your legs and your balls sink into the ground. It is a slightly harder surface. There’s also altitude, which makes the bullets fly. Based on the results of other players, I should be able to play better here than in other clay court tournaments. So far I haven’t succeeded, but every year it’s a new opportunity. »
