The Greek had to admit defeat to the American 2: 6, 4: 6 at the ATP 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo.
In the last two years, Stefanos Tsitsipas had won the clay court tournament in Monte Carlo. This time, however, the quarter-finals meant the last stop for the Greek.
The world number 3 had no chance against Taylor Fritz (ATP 10) and lost 2:6, 4:6 in just 70 minutes. With the Serbian Novak Djokovic, the number 1 in the world was eliminated in the round of 16 on Thursday.
Medvedev with the forces at the end
Fritz, who eliminated Swiss Stan Wawrinka (ATP 90) in the second round, now meets Andrej Rublew. The Russian (ATP 6) ended Jan-Lennard Struff’s (ATP 100) flight with a 6:1, 7:6 victory.
In the second semi-final there is a duel between Holger Rune (ATP 9) and Jannik Sinner (ATP 8). Rune showed little trouble with a visibly tired Daniil Medvedev (ATP 5) at 6: 3, 6: 4. The Russian fought a battle of attrition with Alexander Zverev (ATP 16) until late on Thursday.
Rune’s semi-final opponent Sinner gave Djokovic conqueror Lorenzo Musetti (ATP 21) no chance and won the all-Italian duel 6-2, 6-2.
