The cross-border youth judo tournament organized by the Bidarteko Dojo took place all day Sunday, March 12, at Kirolak. It was placed under the aegis of the 64 committee, the town hall and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine league.

190 children, including 40 Bidartars, aged 4 to 14, competed. They came from neighboring clubs, from Cambo, Saint-Palais, Capbreton, Urrugne or even Mouguerre, but also from “the other side”, Fontarrabie, Irun and Saint-Sébastien.

First since Covid

Divided into chick, youngest and minimal categories, they challenged each other on the three tatamis installed on the Kirolak cancha, dressed in their white or blue kimono and white, yellow or orange belt. They had all come individually with their parents; these sporting practices, decidedly, require an unfailing commitment from families so that their children can participate in competitions.

This tournament is the first since the Covid parenthesis in this cross-border format. Patricia Fallourd, the president of the Bidarteko Dojo and mother of Lucas Fallourd, the teacher, is delighted to be able to host this event in such good conditions. “You have to have the spirit of association, it’s a very big organizational job, but the result is there, to see all these children gathered in this beautiful cancha for this competition, it’s happiness! »

Jade, 10 and a half years old, kimono and white belt, gets busy. She is everywhere. With a remarkable sense of the collective, she will seek the medals so that they are given to the winners on the podiums. “I’ve been doing judo for two years now, but it’s mainly to know how to defend myself. In addition, she is also a member of the brand new Bidart Children’s Municipal Council.

At the Bidarteko Dojo, not only judo, jujitsu and personal defense for adults are practiced, but also taïso: basic physical exercises to maintain the body and mind, which can constitute a preparation for the practice of other Martial Arts.
