Wrong Penalty Floats, The Reds Fall

Bournemouth

Bournemouth overthrew Liverpool 1-0 in the Premier League this season. Appearing dominant in fact did not make the Reds manage to bring home the victory.

At the Vitality Stadium, Saturday (11/3/2023), Bournemouth’s only goal was scored by Philip Billing’s shot in the 28th minute. Liverpool, who appeared dominant, released six shots on target but none of them resulted in a goal.

The chance to equalize through the penalty spot was wasted after Mohamed Salah’s shot went wide of the target. This defeat was in stark contrast to last week’s results, when they beat Manchester United 7-0.

With this result, Bournemouth out of the relegation zone. They climbed to 16th place by collecting 24 points from 26 matches. Meanwhile, Liverpool did not move from fifth place with 42 points from 26 matches.

The course of the match

Liverpool already threatened through Mohamed Salah’s long-range shot in the 5th minute, but was saved by goalkeeper Neto Murara. Virgil van Dijk’s header a minute later was blocked by Jefferson Lerma.

Darwin Nunez also fired in a long-range shot in the 11th minute, but it was again aimed at Neto. Two minutes later, the Brazilian goalkeeper saved Andy Robertson’s close-range shot.

Despite being attacked a lot, Bournemouth took the lead in the 28th minute. Dango Ouattara escaped the offside trap to receive a through ball from behind and then ran clear of Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson’s escorts.

Liverpool are trying to equalize. A good opportunity came through Van Dijk’s header from Robertson’s pass in the 41st minute, but the ball moved wide on the left side of the goal. Score 1-0 for the host closed the first half.

In the second half, the inclusion of Diogo Jota made Liverpool’s attack even more dangerous. The Portuguese had a golden chance in the 49th minute but his close-range shot was saved by Neto.
