Yes, yes – the violets appear again!

Göttingen – 23 days after the last game in Chemnitz, which caused a stir after a 87:86 win due to rude remarks to top scorer Mark Smith, basketball Bundesliga team BG Göttingen will play its only league game in a long five and a half weeks on Friday at 7 p.m the MLP Academics Heidelberg.

It is still unclear whether the current sixth in the table, “Mister X”, will sign a new player.

“The budget for this is available,” confirmed BG Managing Director Frank Meinertshagen on Tuesday to the HNA. “As far as possible, this amount was planned from the start. But it has to be reinforcement. Our coach is still looking around,” says Meinertshagen, who speaks of another shooting guard (“two”) and small forward (“three”) as a new signing. And coach Roel Moors explores the current player market, which is probably not exactly easy.

“Hopefully yes,” replies the Belgian, who has had his team (mostly) back in the training hall since the Saturday before last after a break of almost ten days, including flying visits all over the world, when asked whether another “Mister X” should be brought in. Moors: “But we have to find the right one. He has to fit. We don’t oblige anyone for the sake of obliging. But there is little concrete at the moment. ”But little does not mean: nothing.

The BG still has a change open. That’s because none of four possible open spots were awarded by the end of the actual transfer period until the end of February. Then another player can be signed until the end of March.

Moors cautiously only hints at how quickly an injury can happen. Post-signed BGer Max Besselink has apparently been injured between the last World Cup qualifiers for his home country Finland, between the games in Israel (win for Suomi) and at home against Germany (loss for Suomi). Besselink is now back in Göttingen, but a precise diagnosis is still pending, according to Moors. “We have to be patient.” The same applies to the young Paderborn player Peter Hemschemeier, whose back problem has not yet been completely overcome even after the long period without playing.

After his international matches for Norway in Denmark and against North Macedonia, Harald Frey suffered an injury while training in the “Sartorius Lab”. “But he’s feeling better again,” Moors gives the all-clear. BG record player Mathis Mönninghoff is already back in training after a cold to prepare for the Friday match in Heidelberg, to which the violets are already leaving on Thursday.

Meanwhile, BG boss Meinertshagen was at another regular BBL conference at the beginning of the week. Among other things, it was about new, additional marketing guidelines when the new TV partner “Dyn” (Springer-Verlag and ex-DFL boss Christian Seifert) replaces the current station MagentaSport (Telekom) in the coming season.
