Unusual, ATP > Medvedev (on his first match against Federer): “It was a tight duel. At one point, he made a kind of retro coup, and in the stands, it was delirium”

A long interview with Daniil Medvedev has just been put online by our colleagues at Tennis Magazine in Germany. It was made last August but part of its content is still relevant, especially when the Russian player evokes a certain Roger Federer.

“You can’t imagine a world of tennis without Roger. When I started watching tennis on television, Roger was already there. He is as everyone describes him: respectful and distinguished, a wonderful guy. A legend on and off the court. I played three times against him, I lost three times. It was at the Shanghai tournament that I played against him for the first time in 2018. A week before, I had won my first 500 tournament in Tokyo. I knew that if I won in the first round against the Chinese Ze Zhang, I would then play against Roger. It was a crazy game against Zhang, he played the game of his life. I had to save match points. The game against Roger was close. I had a good chance. I remember he pulled off some sort of retro stunt and the stadium went wild. At the time, this match was the greatest moment of my career. I will definitely miss Roger. »
