Player rating:

Darnell Washington is a TE who plays for the Georgia Bulldogs in College Football. Primarily lines attached to the OL, like traditional Y-Tight End.

The first impression caused on his tape is one of pure astonishment and admiration for a player of such stature. With the surreal measures he has, Darnell lives up to expectations and is an exceptional blocker, being one of the most imposing players in the entire class. Whether in the ground game, or providing help with pass protection, he does the job at a very high level.

As a receiver, Washington has high potential attacking vertically, moving excellently for someone so big, as well as using his giant body to block defenders and prevent them from reaching the ball, making his ability to receive contested balls one of the most feared by defenders.

It shouldn’t be an above-average separator – which probably won’t be necessary – and will benefit from an attack that doesn’t ask for it, certainly avoiding routes with more blunt cuts, limiting the demands with its change of direction.

With the ball off the ground, even though it’s not as dynamic, it’s a complete challenge to be tackled, after all, it’s not that easy to drop 120Kg of pure rage in motion. Darnell manages to “run over” defenders, use a stiff arm (movement where the ball carrier uses his hand on the defender’s helmet to avoid being tackled) or even jump over them. Basically a war tank that can jump really high.

The main part of your game that needs improvement is the contested balls. Despite winning some, as previously mentioned, it should gain even more due to its size and limitations as a route runner – another negative point in its profile as a prospect.

To be successful in the NFL as a receiver, he will need to be dominant in this regard, and assert his disparity in height and muscle compared to defenders, who will always be much smaller.
