The UMA teaches a Golf subject within the Physical Activity Sciences degree

Students in the Physical Activity and Sports Sciences degree at the University of Malaga will receive training in a very specific subject, golf, in which Malaga and the Costa del Sol occupy a very prominent position at a national level. In this second quarter of the course, the theoretical and practical classes have begun. In this way, the UMA becomes the first Spanish public university to offer this training to its students, who will carry out internships in one of the 53 courses in the province thanks to an agreement with the Andalusian Federation.

This training novelty has been presented this Monday at the Sports Complex by the General Secretary for Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, José María Arrabal, accompanied by the rector of the UMA, José Ángel Narváez; the president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, Pablo Mansilla; the Vice Chancellors for Studies and Students and Sports, Ernesto Pimentel and Francisco Murillo, respectively; the Dean of Education Sciences, Rosario Moreno, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Sports, Emilio Fernández.

Arrabal and Pimentel have explained to the 60 students who are studying the degree the importance of receiving training in golf, since it is a sport that provides added value to the mere physical activity that it entails,” as it is the industry that creates the most wealth and what else contributes to our community »

They have also highlighted that there is a lack of technicians in golf, so students who choose to continue training in this sport will have more job opportunities.

In addition to the theoretical classes, the UMA also offers the students of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences the realization of practices in golf courses in the province, thanks to an agreement signed with the Federation. And to carry them out, each student has received a golf club as a gift.

Novelty

The degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences has been launched this year at the University of Malaga. There are 60 students who have begun their training at the UMA in one of the most demanded careers and which forced young people to travel to Granada, Seville, Almería, Cádiz or Huelva, since Malaga was one of the few Andalusian universities that did not I had this grade. UMA and golf

The UMA has organized nine national university championships, one European and one world golf championship. There is also a Chair of Tourism and Golf, created in March 2016, whose objective is to create a space for analysis, debate, dissemination and academic research on business opportunities, new challenges and realities of golf tourism. Spain has 400 fields, of which more than a hundred are located in Andalusia, with a very high impact on the Gross Domestic Product. It is the third federation in number of athletes, behind soccer and hunting.
