The ill-fated return of the captain. Gebre Selassie has a broken leg

“The captain of Liberec is coming back at the right time after his illness,” Slovan proclaimed before the kick-off of the quarter-final with Sparta on social networks. But the return of the experienced footballer lasted only half an hour. The fight from the 31st minute became fatal for the former representative.

Haraslín fell into the thirty-six-year-old Gebre Selassie while trying to make a loop. Referee Ladislav Szikszay assessed the fight as a foul by the Liberec player. Gebre Selassie continued to play, but after a short while he lay down on the turf and took off his captain’s armband. Valenta took the field instead of him.

“He has already had an X-ray and unfortunately he has a broken leg,” admitted Liberec coach Luboš Kozel. According to Sport.cz, it is a fracture in the ankle area.

“I’m sorry that we lost another player. Theo has a broken leg so he is out for surgery. Unfortunately, we lost another defender. In addition, it was whistled as his foul, which does not bother me,” Kozel said at the press conference in a whisper, as he almost lost his voice during the dramatic match.

Theo Gebre Selassie has a contract in Liberec until the end of the season, in which he will probably not return to the field. The question is whether it was the last match of his rich career…
