Nothing is ever certain in the world of football, but today Christophe Galtier is closer to a departure than an extension at Paris Saint-Germain. Several names of potential replacements have also often circulated in recent months. Thomas Tuchel, Roberto Mancini, José Mourinho, Zinedine Zidane or even Thiago Motta were the few examples of coaches cited. Except that all these tracks are flying away one by one.

Tuchel has just signed for Bayern Munich and José Mourinho has made it known that he wants to stay at AS Roma, where he is under contract until 2024. Two tracks to forget, to which could be added the one leading to former PSG midfielder Thiago Motta. Often announced on the Ile-de-France bench, the Italo-Brazilian has the advantage of knowing the red and blue house like the back of his hand. Asked about a potential return to France, the interested party kicked into touch last February. “I’m not going to comment on the situation and the PSG links, I’m 100% focused on the next game”.

Bologna wants to shield Motta

And today the Gazzetta dello Sport tells us that the Motta club, Bologna, is working to lock down its coach. Ninth in the Serie A standings, the leaders of Emilia-Romagna are delighted with Motta’s performance. Club boss Joey Saputo spoke with his coach to discuss the future of the team. No firm decision has been made, but there is a desire to meet again at the end of April. And barring disaster, the idea is to extend Motta for a year, i.e. until 2025. Bologna was in no hurry, but the announcement by the media of the interests of clubs such as PSG or Inter forced the transalpine formation to activate.

The pink paper daily however indicates that a special clause, in the event that a large European appears, could be included, but for the moment, Motta gives the impression above all of being focused on the end of the season and the next exercise. Moreover, the former midfielder has already set his priorities for the next transfer window. Five, six players would have been declared untransferable (Posch, Dominguez, Ferguson among others) and reviews are expected. Bologna may not be able to compete if a big arm from the European scene pushes for Motta, but President Saputo will do his best to avoid the departure of his coach.
