“Taking longer than I thought”

Kyrie Irving missed his third game in a row in San Antonio. The guard could be missing even longer, as he stated before the Spurs game.

“We’ll see, but it doesn’t look good,” Irving said before the game in San Antonio. “This injury to my foot isn’t healing as quickly as I thought it would. It’s nothing major, but it just needs a little more time,” continued Uncle Drew.

The injury, sustained by Irving in the loss in New Orleans, is just below his big toe, according to the guard. “It’s a precautionary measure. I need my feet to play, so I’d rather take care of them now than when I’m 40 years old.”

In San Antonio, the Mavs also won without Irving and also without Luka Doncic, who continues to have problems with his hamstring. “We’d love to play but our health is our number one priority and when we’re fit we’ll try to get another run going,” Irving continued.

It is still unclear whether Irving and/or Doncic will be able to play again at the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night. However, for the playoff race, this is an immensely important game. Losses to the Timberwolves and Warriors keep the Mavs just a game off sixth place, while a win against Dallas could see the Lakers overtake them. The Mavs currently hold the tiebreaker against the Lakers (2-1).
