Strong sign of life from Jan.Lennard Struff at the heavily occupied ATP Challenger tournament in Phoenix. The German Davis Cup player, who missed his team’s encounter with Switzerland in Trier due to injury, is already in the semi-finals after beating Alexander Bublik in three sets. Struff won 6: 4, 3: 6 and 6: 4 and is now playing against the Portuguese Nuno Borges, who was able to hold his own against Alexei Popyrin in three sets.
On the other hand, Matteo Berrettini, number one in Phoenix, was surprisingly eliminated. The Italian lost to Alexander Shevchenko 4: 6, 6: 3 and 3: 6. Shevchenko, who trains with Günter Bresnik in Vienna, will face Frenchman Quentin Halys in the semifinals.
