State ‘decrease in allocations’ affect Ecuadorian sports federations; executives will communicate their position at a press conference | Other Sports | Sports

After a meeting between the presidents of the Ecuadorian sports federations with Jorge Delgado, his counterpart from the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE), they expressed their disagreement with the budget cut by the national government.

The COE, in a publication on its official website and posted on its social networks, communicated the fact and the meeting, which combined the face-to-face and virtual.

“After a 2022 full of international competitions and with gratifying results for the country, sport has been affected by the decrease in allocations from the national government, which have already been notified to sports organizations,” the agency said.

“Thus, federations such as racquetball, underwater sports, bowling, fencing, badminton, basketball and karate will have a 20% reduction compared to the budget they received the previous year. Gymnastics, taekwondo and bodybuilding will receive 15% less. Cycling has a 10% decrease; table tennis, 11%; squash, 12% less; triathlon, 13%; and softball revealed that the cut for them will be 27%,” the letter added.

The statement details that what the federations currently receive does not cover all their planned activities.

“It should be noted that several of these federations receive annual budgets of less than $15,000, resources that they no longer supplied to carry out their activities. In addition, several of them have been reaping victories at the international level or in the events of the Olympic cycle, ”said the COE.

“The presidents and financial administrators of the federations of karate, fencing, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo, canoeing, basketball, squashcakes, buceo and underwater sports, racquetball, modern pentathlon, wushu, mountaineering, triathlon, athletics, softball, gymnastics, cycling, archery, Olympic shooting, volleyball, sailing, equestrian and handball. The heads of the swimming and bodybuilding federations were present in person, ”he added.

It was also reported that this Monday, March 6, starting at 10:00, the representatives of the federations will hold a press conference in the COE auditorium to “make known their position and all the implications that this decrease in resources will have in the national sport”. (D)
